Sanctuary
Sanctuary
2010

There exists a unique relationship between people and their environment, especially in regards to architecture.

“Sanctuary” is the epitome of this relationship. The gazebo is roughly 100 years. Its paint is chipped and the wood beneath is rotting. The vines that decorate its exterior threaten to overtake it.
This “Buddha Pavilion”, as it is called, houses and protects the Hari-Hara, the name of the combined deity of both Vishnu and Shiva from the Hindu religion.
The statue can be seen through the window of the gazebo doors, the glass of which reflects the trees, grass and sky.
It is a perfect blending of the spiritual, the physical and the natural world.
